Placenta Encapsulation

Placenta Encapsulation is a wonderful addition to postpartum recovery and adjustment to your new family dynamic! Let's get into some background of what happens to your body after the birth of your baby and the placenta first :

  • Once the baby and placenta have been birthed - the hormones, progesterone and estrogen decrease dramatically in just a matter of hours

  • Oxytocin, the love hormone, increases as you bond with baby and to help level out the plummeting progesterone and estrogen.

  • Many mothers experience a roller coaster of emotions as hormones fluctuate and change over the next 3-6 weeks.

  • In total, it takes about three months before your hormones are back to normal, at pre-pregnancy levels.

Although no studies have been completed to prove the benefits of placenta consumption, it has been proven in a recent 2018 study at the University of NV that placenta consumption causes no harm to the mother or baby as previously speculated by many.

By consuming your placenta, you are aiding hormonal balance and recovery as the placenta contains a variety of nutrients including: hormones, iron, and protein.

Fun Fact: Humans are actually one of the only mammals that do not consume their placentas after the birth of their offspring.

Benefits mothers experienced after consuming their placenta include:

  • Increased milk production

  • Improved mood

  • Increased energy

  • Hormonal balance

  • Decreased postpartum bleeding

  • Organic source of iron supplementation

  • Stress reduction and feelings of balance and clarity

  • Decreased risk or severity of postpartum depression
